I tried all tutorials, helps and tips which I just could find on the Internet about how to reset
Cisco Catalyst 2948G-L3 switch but non of them worked.
I tried hitting Pause/Break button with Hyperterminal but that didn’t work or do anything at all.
But then I decided to try putty because it has helped me so many times when I have had problems with Hyperterminal and it
helped this time too =)
When I had connect my computer to the switch via serial cable I rebooted switch by unplugging the
power cord and then plugging it in again. When I started to see text on the screen I choose “Special Command” and under that “Break” from puttys menu.
When I saw “rommon 1>” kind of prompt I knew that I had succeed.
Now I just had to say “confreg 0×2142” and “reset” after that and now switch should reboot itself.
When it gets backup you will get some setup question where you can say no or just skip whole thing with hitting Ctrl-C
Now you have get rid of annoying passwords and you can start to configure you switch by saying “enable” after the “Router>”
prompt and then you should see “Router#” prompt.
